Why not make 2008 the year you get organized and get paid? The most important item to remember when re-organizing your practice is to not do to too much too soon. Start simple by making sure your client demographics are adequate and up-to-date. The cornerstone of any well functioning billing plan is accurate and reliable information. Checking your current demographic facesheet against a CMS-1500 (formerly HCFA) for key fields can be a real eye opener to facesheet shortcomings. Also, make sure to get new copies of insurance cards for clients. Insurance plans may change even though the client’s employer is staying with the same insurance company. This can mean new claim addresses, provider contact phone numbers, and even new third party administrators or gatekeepers. Lastly, make sure to submit claim forms as quickly after the date of service as possible. This ensures that your money will be in process rather than just sitting collecting dust. If you would like some additional tips or if you would like to hear about some of the services PMC offers such as daily online charge billing, insurance follow-up, or insurance verification please call me directly on my cell phone at 866.779.2455. Cordially, Mark Gallegos Undercoding costs providers billions According to a study commissioned by the American Association of Professional Coders over $20,000,000,000 is lost annually by providers to undercoding. How much is it costing your practice? There are various ways to find out including expensive computer programs, cumbersome books, or even hiring a coding expert. Another solution is to take advantage of the complimentary CPT coding analysis provided by PMC to ensure that our new clients are being paid commensurate to the services performed.
